Malta Under-21s will conclude their UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying campaign on Tuesday evening when they take on Latvia at the Daugava Stadium in Riga, with kick-off scheduled for 18:00 CET.

Coach Davide Mazzotta is hoping his players can end the campaign with a performance that reflects the progress made under his guidance. Malta go into the final fixture after a 4-1 defeat to group leaders Germany, although their determined display at the Centenary Stadium earned praise from the German camp.

Mazzotta believes the experience of facing players from some of Europe’s leading clubs will benefit his squad, but insists Latvia will provide a very different challenge. Latvia defeated Malta in the reverse fixture and the coach expects another demanding encounter.

“We must play at our best to overturn that result and close our commitments on a positive note,” Mazzotta said.

The Malta coach is demanding full commitment from his players and wants to see a mature display from the team.

“I want a performance which is mature and shows our improvement and the strong character we have built,” he said.

With the qualifying campaign reaching its conclusion, Malta will be aiming to finish strongly and demonstrate the development achieved throughout the competition.
