Malta U21 Focus on Development Ahead of Moldova Friendly

The Malta Under‑21 National Team will be aiming to make the most of another important international test on Thursday evening when they face Moldova in Orhei, with coach Davide Mazzotta emphasising the long‑term value of such fixtures for player development.
Mazzotta has selected a 22‑player squad, including several newcomers, as injuries ruled out a number of regulars. Despite the absences, the coach expressed full confidence in the group available, noting that the match offers a crucial opportunity for the staff to assess emerging talent.
“Friendlies allow us to observe younger players who have distinguished themselves with their clubs and who fit our philosophy,” he said, underlining the importance of consistent exposure to international football. He added that these matches help the staff better understand each player’s potential while reinforcing the fundamentals worked on during this training window.
Mazzotta insisted that the team approaches every match with the same seriousness, regardless of whether it is competitive or friendly. While acknowledging the challenges posed by limited preparation time and injuries, he highlighted the continued support of the Malta FA and clubs as essential to the squad’s progress.
