Malta U21 Face Northern Ireland in Crucial Qualifier Tomorrow

Malta’s Under-21 national team will take on Northern Ireland tomorrow evening in a crucial 2027 UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifier at the Centenary Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 7pm.

Coach Davide Mazzotta’s side are preparing for a demanding international window, which will also see them face Germany and Latvia in the coming days.

Mazzotta has praised his players’ commitment during preparations but stressed the need for further improvement ahead of the encounter. He identified confidence, courage and determination as three key qualities required to compete against a physically strong Northern Ireland side.

The coach expects his team to stand up to the visitors’ physical approach, avoid unnecessary mistakes and remain resilient throughout the match.

Northern Ireland currently occupy third place in Group F, and Mazzotta believes his players can produce a positive performance if they follow the game plan and maintain their motivation.

“It is our duty to honour the Maltese shirt to the full,” the coach said, emphasising the importance of representing the country with pride and giving their utmost effort.

Following tomorrow’s fixture, Malta will host Germany on September 30 before travelling to Latvia for their final qualifier on October 6.

Mazzotta also congratulated the senior national team on their recent victory over Andorra, expressing hope that their achievement will inspire the Under-21 squad to deliver a strong performance.

The coach’s immediate priority, however, remains securing a positive result against Northern Ireland as Malta begin their final international window of the 2025–26 qualifying cycle.
