Malta U16 Boys claim impressive silver after brave FIBA EuroBasket final in Yerevan

Malta’s Under‑16 Boys National Team secured a well‑deserved silver medal at the FIBA U16 EuroBasket Division C 2026, following yesterday’s final in Yerevan. The Maltese side, coached by Omar Said, reached the championship game after an excellent tournament run, but fell to hosts Armenia, who completed an unbeaten campaign with a 97–68 victory.
Malta started brightly, briefly taking an early lead, but Armenia’s physicality and home support quickly shifted momentum. Armenian standout Dmitri Hajyan dominated with 32 points, while Anthony Sarkesian added 18 points and an extraordinary 21 rebounds. Despite the pressure, Malta fought valiantly throughout, led by Beau Samuel Kisvarda, who posted 15 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 7 steals, and Zac Said Hollier, who contributed 14 points. Both Maltese players were later named to the tournament’s All‑Star Team a testament to their outstanding performances.
Although the gold slipped away, Malta’s silver medal marks a historic achievement and reflects the team’s growth, resilience, and rising international profile. Their run in Armenia showcased promising talent and reinforced optimism for the future of Maltese basketball.
