Malta Triathlon Federation Holds First Tryouts for 2026 Season

The Malta Triathlon Federation (MTF) has successfully held the first of three planned tryouts for the 2026 season, as part of its ongoing athlete monitoring and development programme.
The session took place on 11 March 2026 and was overseen by MTF Development Manager Michelle Vella Wood together with Technical Official Charles Muscat. The initiative aims to identify and support Malta’s emerging and elite triathlon talent while tracking the progress of athletes throughout the season.
These tryouts serve as an important benchmark for competitors across various categories. By evaluating key performance indicators and monitoring improvements over time, the federation is able to better understand how athletes are developing in their training and how prepared they are for upcoming competitions.
The data gathered during the sessions will play a key role in several selection processes throughout the season. Among these are the formation of the Youth Development Squad and the Senior Performance Squad, which represent important steps within Malta’s high-performance pathway in the sport.
Additionally, performances during the tryouts will help determine eligibility for Age Group international competitions and may influence the selection of athletes who will represent Malta in major upcoming events, including the Mediterranean Games scheduled to take place in Taranto in August 2026.
Two further tryouts are planned later this year as the federation continues to monitor athletes and ensure that selections are based on consistent performance and ongoing development.
