Malta Triathlon Federation Celebrates Successful Patricipation At World Championships in Pontevedra

Malta enjoyed a highly successful showing at the World Triathlon Championships in Pontevedra, Spain, with the national delegation securing two silver medals and several strong performances across the Age Group events.

Danica Bonello Spiteri claimed silver in the 45-49 Age Group Sprint Distance World Championships, adding another major international achievement to her career. Ryan Muscat also reached the podium, winning silver in the 20-24 Age Group Aquabike World Championships.

The results saw Malta finish 22nd among the 167 federations enrolled with World Triathlon and 22nd among the 67 national federations represented at the Championships.

Several of Malta’s younger athletes also produced impressive results in their first World Age Group Championships. Liam Daly narrowly missed the podium with an excellent fourth-place finish, while Zia Fujii secured fifth in her age group. Aiden Muscat completed his first World Championships with a commendable 17th-place finish.

Ben Psaila and Julian Villate also represented Malta in the Sprint Distance event, gaining valuable international experience, while Reuben Zammit was the only Maltese athlete to complete the Standard Distance.

The Malta Triathlon Federation praised all the athletes for their commitment and determination, highlighting the results as a reflection of the continued development of Maltese triathlon.

The performances in Pontevedra further strengthen Malta’s presence on the international stage and provide encouragement for the next generation of Maltese triathletes.
