Malta will once again take centre stage in international powerboat racing as it hosts the opening round of the UIM Pleasure Navigation World Championships between 17th and 19th April 2026.

The event marks the return of Voomquest, bringing high-energy racing back to local waters after a short break. Races will take place in Sliema and the Grand Harbour, with 28 teams expected from Malta, Belgium, Italy, and England.

The championship will begin with speed runs in the Grand Harbour before moving to circuit racing off Sliema on a challenging 3.54 nautical mile course. The race village will be set up at Boilers Wharf, creating a lively atmosphere for both teams and spectators.

A dedicated spectators’ area will be available at Surfside Lido, offering great views of the action. On Saturday, visitors can watch practice sessions from 10:00 to 12:00 and races from 14:00 to 16:00. On Sunday, the final race will be visible from around 10:30 until 13:00.

The opening straight runs will take place on Friday between 10:00 and 12:00, and again from 14:00 to 16:00. Additional runs are scheduled on Sunday between 14:00 and 17:00, with Senglea Point (Xatt Juan B Azopardo) offering one of the best viewing spots.

The event is led by Maltese racer Aaron Ciantar, a five-time world champion. He said the championship is a proud moment for Malta and highlights the country’s growing role in international powerboat racing.
