Malta To Compete In Snooker International Challenge Cup In Ireland

A Maltese contingent of amateur snooker players arrived in Youghal, in the Republic of Ireland, to participate in this year's edition of the International Challenge Cup.

This will be the fourth consecutive year that Malta participates in this competition, where in the previous three years Malta has consistently achieved satisfactory results: third in Scotland in 2023, second when hosting the 2024 edition, and last year in France, we were ranked third.

As in the previous three years, along with Malta, France, Scotland, the Republic of Ireland, and Northern Ireland will participate in this tournament. This will be the fourth time since the competition began in 2014 that this event will be organized in Youghal, and the fifth time in this country. The Republic of Ireland has won every edition they have hosted, as well as winning the highest number of editions, eight out of thirteen.

The International Challenge Cup is won by the country that wins the most frames and each country must play against each other in three different categories: Men's, Masters, and Juniors.

The Maltese team will consist of nine players. Chris Peplow, Alex Borg, Joseph Casha, and John Farrugia will play in the men's category, while Frans Mintoff, Philip Ciantar, Ivan Attard, and Manuel Mallia will participate in the Masters division. Xavier Rizzo is the Maltese representative who will play in the Juniors category.

The first commitments for the Maltese players begin on Thursday morning against Scotland, while later in the evening, Malta will play against France. On Friday, Malta will play against Northern Ireland in the morning and against the Republic of Ireland in the afternoon. This will be the tenth and final match of this edition of the I.C.C.

The President of the Malta Billiards & Snooker Association, Ivan Brincat, along with Richard Sheridan, are leading the Maltese delegation. Also accompanying the Maltese contingent is Charles Vella, who will be one of the referees for this edition.
