Malta Sports Journalists Association, Malta FA, And Malta PL Reach New Media Access Agreement

The Malta Sports Journalists Association held a positive meeting with the Malta Football Association and the Malta Premier League to reaffirm the shared commitment to keep supporting sports journalism and the continued development of Maltese football.

A major outcome of the meeting was the conclusion of a new media access agreement that will simplify accreditation procedures for accredited sports journalists covering domestic football competitions.

Under the new agreement, all MSJA members will be granted access to Malta Premier League matches and all competitions organised by the Malta Football Association by presenting their valid and official MSJA membership card 2026/7.

The new system means that MSJA members will not be required to pay any entrance fee or annual freelance media fee to attend domestic competitions covered by the agreement.

As part of the new arrangement, the MSJA will provide the Malta Football Association with an updated list of its registered members each season. In addition, the MFA will issue a digital media accreditation card exclusively to registered MSJA members, ensuring a streamlined and transparent accreditation process.

The agreement also confirms that freelance journalists who are not members of the Malta Sports Journalists Association will continue to be subject to the existing annual accreditation fee. The new arrangements apply exclusively to domestic competitions and do not extend to international matches, for which the current accreditation procedures will remain in force.

Both the Malta Football Association and the Malta Premier League will retain the right to suspend or withdraw accreditation from any media representative found to be in breach of stadium regulations, professional standards or codes of conduct, ensuring that media access continues to be exercised professionally.

Beyond the media access discussions, the meeting also served as an opportunity to discuss future collaboration between the three organisations. Among the initiatives explored were educational programmes, media workshops for clubs and players, seminars on sports communication, and other projects aimed at raising professional standards within both sports’ journalism and Maltese football.
