Team Malta has arrived in Kamnik, Slovenia, for the 2026 European Athletics Off‑Road Running Championships, joining a record 593 athletes from 33 countries competing between 5–7 June. The event, set in the dramatic Kamnik‑Savinja Alps, features uphill, up‑and‑down mountain races and long‑distance trail events, making it the biggest edition to date.

Malta’s delegation includes a blend of experienced mountain runners and emerging talent. Tara Abdilla leads the women’s contingent in the 8.8km uphill race featuring +1280m elevation, while Giselle Camilleri and Tommy Wallbank also take on the uphill discipline. On the trail side, Ryan Farrugia tackles the gruelling 52.7km course with +2648m elevation, joined by Aidan Tanti and Isaac Attard in the senior trail events. Rising star Iris Merle Camilleri competes in the U20 category, lining up for both the uphill race and the 5.7km up‑and‑down event (+375m/‑375m).

With record participation and challenging alpine terrain, the championships promise a demanding but inspiring weekend for Malta’s athletes as they test themselves against Europe’s elite.
