Malta’s Juniors Set the Standard at Finnish Junior Open in Helsinki

Malta’s junior squash athletes delivered a commanding display at the Finnish Junior Open (ESF Bronze) in Helsinki, producing results that further cement the nation’s growing reputation on the European circuit. Facing 85 top international players at Talihalli, the Maltese trio rose to the challenge with confidence, composure and elite-level execution.

Tom Agius claimed a flawless BU13 gold, sweeping through the draw without dropping a single game. His victory in Finland adds to his Latvian and Slovenian titles, marking a remarkable run of three finals and three consecutive championship wins. Emma Inglott matched that success in the GU17 category, completing her medal set after bronze in Hungary and silver in Slovenia. Her triumph over the top two seeds showcased her rapid development and competitive maturity.

In the BU15 division, 13‑year‑old Leo Ben‑Ari impressed on debut, pushing the No.2 seed to a five‑set thriller before securing an excellent fifth place overall.

National coach Niall Engerer praised the trio as “the next generation pushing new limits,” as Malta continues to raise its international benchmark.
