Malta National team opens its European Water Polo Championships campaign tomorrow in Belgrade

Malta’s men’s water polo team will begin its European Aquatics Water Polo Championships 2026 campaign tomorrow, as the Group Stage Phase gets underway in Belgrade, Serbia. Drawn in Group A, Malta will face a challenging set of opponents: Montenegro, France and Hungary.

The tournament, running from 10 to 25 January 2026, brings together Europe’s strongest national teams, with Malta aiming to build on recent progress at international level. The opening match will see Malta take on one of the group’s top seeds, setting the tone for a demanding but promising campaign.

Team officials noted that the squad has prepared intensively in recent weeks, focusing on tactical discipline and physical conditioning. Despite the strength of their opponents, the Maltese side is determined to deliver competitive performances and push for positive results.
