Malta International 2026 badminton tournament concludes with strong international field

The Malta International 2026 presented by VICTOR came to a close last weekend at the Cottonera Sports Complex, wrapping up four days of high‑level badminton on the Badminton Europe circuit. The tournament welcomed over 100 international athletes, giving Maltese players a valuable opportunity to compete against world‑class opposition on home soil.

Poland’s Dominik Kwinta captured the Men’s Singles title, while Prakriti Bharath of the United Arab Emirates secured the Women’s Singles crown. England’s Robin Harper & Harry Wakefield won the Men’s Doubles, Ireland’s Orla and Siofra Flynn claimed the Women’s Doubles, and UAE duo Dhiren Ayyappan & Taabia Khan triumphed in Mixed Doubles.

Local athletes produced encouraging displays, particularly in the qualifying rounds. Nigel Degaetano & Lauren Azzopardi battled to a three‑set victory, while Matthew Galea & Elenia Haber advanced with a straight‑sets win. In the main draw, Matthew Abela pushed his Round of 32 match to a deciding set, and Samuel Cassar narrowly missed forcing a third in a tight 21‑23 finish.
