Malta Football Association Releases Statement After Marsaxlokk FC Protest
Local

The Malta Football Association (MFA) has broken its silence amid the controversy surrounding Floriana's winning goal against Marsaxlokk in last Saturday's finalissima.

The MFA stated that it "confirms that it has received a formal protest from Marsaxlokk FC concerning the decisive YoHealth Premier League match played on 16th May 2026 between Floriana FC and Marsaxlokk FC," in which referee Matthew Degabriele's questionable decision to allow Floriana's added time goal led to the greens being crowned champions.

The MFA remarked that "the protest will be referred to the MFA’s independent judicial body, the Protest Board, for its consideration and decision," while stating that "the Malta FA will refrain from making any further comments while the matter is under review by the competent bodies"

All those involved in Maltese football will be awaiting the final verdict in what may result to be a dramatic turnaround to an exciting season end.
