Malta Football Association Concludes 2026 Stewards Training Course

The Malta Football Association (MFA) has successfully concluded the 2026 edition of its Stewards Training Course, reinforcing its commitment to enhancing safety and security standards at football matches across Malta.

Introduced following the implementation of new legislation last year, the accredited course prepares individuals to fulfil the legal requirement for trained and licensed stewards at sporting events. These certified stewards will work alongside the Police, assuming key responsibilities in spectator management and event safety, enabling officers to focus more effectively on their core policing duties.

Participants completed a comprehensive 30-hour programme comprising 10 study units that combined theoretical instruction with practical training. The curriculum covered essential areas such as crowd management, spectator safety, customer care, emergency procedures, communication, conflict management, legal responsibilities, and operational best practices.

Upon successfully completing the course, participants are now eligible to obtain the recognised steward licence required to perform stewarding duties at sporting venues.

The programme forms part of the Malta FA's wider strategy to raise operational standards across Maltese football while aligning local practices with recognised national and international safety and security standards. By investing in the education and licensing of stewards, the Association continues to foster a safer, more welcoming, and professionally managed matchday environment for supporters, players, officials, and all stakeholders.

During the closing ceremony, participants received certificates recognising their achievement. Malta FA Vice President Adrian Casha congratulated the newly qualified stewards, encouraging them to carry out their duties "like good referees, by observing, communicating well, and being proactive in your decisions."
