Malta Finish Fourth After Penalty Shoot-out Defeat To Luxembourg

Malta's national hockey team concluded its EuroHockey Championship Qualifier II 2026 campaign in fourth place after losing 4-3 in a penalty shoot-out to Luxembourg.
The match ended 1-1 after regulation time. Luxembourg took the lead in the third minute through a penalty corner converted by Frederic Schmit, with Malta equalising in the 24th minute thanks to a goal by Christ Agius.
Despite a determined performance from both sides, neither team managed to find a winner during regulation time.
In the penalty shoot-out, Luxembourg proved more accurate, securing a 4-3 victory to claim third place, while Malta had to settle for fourth after producing several positive performances throughout the tournament.
