Malta FA Welcomes Introduction of Paid Sports Leave in Budget 2027

The Malta Football Association (Malta FA) has welcomed the Government’s announcement in the Budget 2027 speech introducing 10 days of paid sports leave for athletes representing Malta at European and world championships, including accompanying technical and medical personnel.
The measure, originally proposed by the Malta FA, aims to support national team players and staff who balance international sporting commitments with full-time employment.
The Association has long advocated for such an initiative, emphasising that athletes representing their country should not have to sacrifice their personal leave entitlement to fulfil national duties.
The Malta FA described the announcement as a positive development that will encourage athletes and support personnel to pursue excellence while continuing their professional careers.
It also expressed its willingness to collaborate with the relevant authorities to ensure the measure is implemented effectively.
Highlighting its ongoing cooperation with the Government, the Association acknowledged the importance of continued investment in sporting infrastructure, athlete development and initiatives aimed at raising standards.
The Malta FA also welcomed the substantial financial allocation for sport announced in the Budget, expressing confidence that continued collaboration will strengthen Maltese football and create further opportunities for athletes competing internationally.
