The Malta FA has addressed recent comments surrounding its means‑tested, paid scholarship initiative, reiterating that the programme is firmly rooted in social purpose. Designed to remove barriers to participation in sport, the scheme aims to strengthen the role of clubs within communities and promote greater inclusivity across Maltese football.

The association emphasised that clubs and the wider football network play a vital role in guiding young people toward positive environments, helping them stay engaged, supported, and away from harmful behaviours.

The Malta FA also clarified that the programme does not promote cannabis in any form. The affiliation referenced in public discussion is with the regulator, not any operator, and all funding originates from public sources. Cannabis remains prohibited under the WADA list, and any use within football will continue to be addressed strictly in line with established regulations.

The FA maintains its commitment to safeguarding young athletes and strengthening football’s social impact.
