Local

The Malta FA is organising a Sport-Specific First Aid Training Course in August, aimed at equipping personnel from its affiliated clubs and member associations with the knowledge and practical skills required to respond effectively to medical emergencies in football environments.

The comprehensive eight-hour course will be taking place on Saturday 8th August 2026. It has been specifically designed for the Malta FA in consultation with Chief Medical Officer Dr Daniel McKean, ensuring that the training reflects the realities of football training sessions, matches and official events. It will be run by The Malta Red Cross.

The course will equip personnel with the essential knowledge, practical skills, and confidence required to respond promptly, safely, and professionally to accidents and medical emergencies occurring within the Association’s facilities or during football-related activities and events.

It is primarily intended for staff whose roles may reasonably require first aid knowledge due to the nature of their work within a football context. The course will primarily focus on sports-related injuries and acute medical conditions which are commonly encountered during football training, matches, tournaments and official events.

The course covers topics including the role and responsibilities of a First Aider, life-saving skills, when and how to activate emergency medical services, among other responsibilities. Participants will also take part in practical exercises and sport-specific medical scenarios designed to build confidence in responding to real-life emergencies.

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a Malta FA First Aid Certificate, valid for three years.

Applications for the course are now open, at the cost of €75 per participant. The cost includes course customisation for football environments, training delivery, assessment and certification, as well as distribution of pre-course learning materials.
