The Malta Football Association has confirmed that the Football Video Support (FVS) system will be in operation for the final rounds of the Meridianbet FA Trophy, following encouraging results from recent trials across local competitions.

The system was already successfully implemented in the Malta FA Jubilee Cup and the YoHealth Malta Premier, and was also used over the past two days during the FA Trophy Round of 16 fixtures. Its growing presence reflects the Association’s confidence in the technology and its impact on match officiating.

So far, FVS has been deployed in 38 matches, where 76 challenges were made by teams. This led to 17 refereeing decisions being overturned, 22.4 per cent of all challenges while eight goals were disallowed, averaging one every 9.5 matches.

David Elleray, Technical Director at the International Football Association Board (IFAB), recently visited the Malta FA to observe the trials firsthand. He expressed satisfaction with both the implementation process and the results achieved so far.
