Malta FA Bids Farewell to Women’s Football Director Pierre Brincat

As 2025 comes to an end, the Malta FA’s Women’s Football Department is preparing to bid farewell to Pierre Brincat, a central figure in the development of the women’s game in Malta. Brincat’s contribution spans more than two decades, marked by historic milestones, steady progress, and an unwavering commitment to elevating opportunities for female footballers.
Brincat began his journey in the sport as a club coach before taking on a groundbreaking role in 2003, becoming the first head coach of Malta’s women’s national team to compete internationally. Between 2003 and 2014, he led the national side in 58 official matches, overseeing a period of gradual improvement and growing competitiveness on the European stage.
His most celebrated achievement came in 2013, when Malta secured historic qualification to the main qualifying round of the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup, topping their preliminary group ahead of Latvia, Albania, and Luxembourg. It remains one of the defining moments in Maltese women’s football.
After stepping away from coaching, Brincat continued shaping the sport as Director of Women’s Football, strengthening pathways, structures, and long‑term development strategies. His retirement marks the end of an era, but his legacy will continue to guide the women’s game for years to come.
