Malta Deliver Strong Showings in Gymnastics and Lawn Bowls on Day Two in Glasgow

Team Malta enjoyed a productive second day at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, competing in artistic gymnastics and lawn bowls with encouraging results across both disciplines.

In artistic gymnastics, Philippa Busuttil, Lyana Curmi Inguanez, and Sophie St John produced a composed collective performance in Subdivision 1, finishing with a team total of 130.750 to place 8th, ahead of India, Namibia, Malaysia and New Zealand. Busuttil was Malta’s standout, scoring 45.900 and topping the balance beam to secure qualification for tonight’s Women’s All‑Around final at 18:00. St John impressed with a powerful vault and elegant beam work, finishing on 44.550, while Curmi Inguanez achieved a personal milestone by successfully landing a vault skill on the international stage, scoring 40.300.

In lawn bowls, Connie and Rebecca Rixon fell 2–0 to England in the Women’s Pairs, but Shaun Parnis delivered one of Malta’s performances of the day, defeating Canada’s decorated bowler Ryan Bester in straight sets, 8–5, 7–4, with superb draw bowling and tactical control.

Malta return to competition today across both sports, with key fixtures in the Women’s Pairs and Parnis facing India’s Putul Sonowal before Busuttil’s evening final.
