Malta Beach Handball National Teams Deliver Best-Ever Results At Calise Cup

Malta’s beach handball national teams produced their strongest-ever performances at the prestigious Calise Cup in Gaeta, Italy, highlighting the remarkable progress made by the Malta Handball Association in recent years.
The Men’s National Team secured a historic ninth-place finish, their best result since first entering the competition three years ago. Malta opened the tournament with an impressive 2-0 victory over Italy’s Colosseum Handball B before facing stronger opposition, including eventual runners-up Melluzhi Jurmala of Latvia and Brazilian powerhouse Niterói Rugby FC Handbol. The team bounced back with victories over Handball Mascalucia and Colosseum Handball A to reach the classification rounds, where they defeated Beach Handball Tilburg of the Netherlands 2-0 to claim ninth place.
The Women’s National Team also impressed, finishing sixth overall and earning the tournament’s Fair Play Award. Malta began with a commanding win over Beach Handball Tilburg before facing tougher tests against Olympia Beach Handball of Great Britain and Portugal’s GRD Leca-Lovetiles. Despite falling short in the quarter-final stage, the team ended the tournament on a high with a 2-0 victory over Colosseum Handball Women of Italy.
Head of Delegation Ádám Süle praised the teams’ progress, noting that opponents and officials had recognised Malta’s significant improvement. Following the tournament, both squads continued their development through additional matches and training sessions with international teams.
The Malta Handball Association credited the achievements to the dedication of its athletes, coaching staff and long-term development strategy.
