Malta Advances To Quarter Finals Of European Team Shield Championships 2026

Malta's men's and women's teams both produced impressive performances on the second day of the European Team Shield Championships 2026, currently being held at the Royal Malta Golf Club.

In the men's competition, Malta finished the Individual Stroke Play qualifying round in third place with a total score of 204 (-3), behind Bulgaria and Cyprus. Ruud Critien and Oliver Davis were Malta's top performers, both returning rounds of 67 (-2), while JJ Micallef Verlest carded 70 (+1) and Andrew Borg finished with 72 (+3). The result secured Malta a place in the quarter-finals, where they will face Romania in the match play stage today.

The Maltese women's team also enjoyed a strong performance, finishing second overall with a total of 217 (+10). Elliana Buhagiar was Malta's best performer with a round of 71 (+2), followed by Serena Falzon Sant Manduca on 72 (+3), while Laya Cristina and Filippa Schulze Döring both signed for rounds of 74 (+5).

As a result, Malta also qualified for the quarter-finals and will take on Ukraine in today's match play contest.
