Malta Advance to World Championship Knockout Stages

Malta continued its impressive campaign at the 2026 World Championships in Morocco, with three of the four Maltese teams progressing to the knockout stages.

The men’s team secured a dramatic qualification in their final round-robin match, producing a convincing 15-6 victory over Algeria. The result booked the current European champions a place in the quarter-finals, where they will face defending champions England at 8.15pm Maltese time.

Malta’s Under-23 and Over-50 teams also advanced after both sides finished their respective round-robin groups in fourth place. The Under-23 side will face England B, while the veterans will take on France. Both playoff matches are scheduled for 8.15pm local time.

The Under-18 team, meanwhile, suffered a disappointing exit despite defending the world title for a third consecutive year. Their elimination was decided by head-to-head results after the team finished level in the standings.

With three teams still competing for honours, Malta will be hoping for another strong showing in the knockout stages as the players continue to represent the national colours with pride on the international stage.
