The Malta Paralympic Committee (MPC) has announced that Maltese Paralympian Maja Theuma PLY has been awarded a prestigious athlete internship with the International Paralympic Committee (IPC).

Maja will be joining the IPC’s Brand, Content and Communications team as part of its Athlete Internship Programme.

This initiative is designed to help Para athletes transition from their sporting careers into professional ones, offering valuable, hands-on experience within the IPC’s core departments.

Dr Mike Peters PLY, two-time Paralympian and IPC Chief Executive Officer, welcomed Maja to the IPC Campus in Bonn, stating, “Supporting athletes on their journey as Paralympians and as leaders in the Paralympic Movement is central to the work of the IPC. We are delighted to offer retiring Para athletes this support to enhance their skills and readiness for future careers.”

Maja represented Team Malta at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games and currently serves as Chairperson of the MPC Para Athletes’ Council, as well as Para Athlete Representative on MPC’s executive committee.

She has played a vital role in MPC’s educational and awareness initiatives while balancing her commitments as both an athlete and student. Maja has competed in national and international events in Para swimming, including the World Para Swimming World Series, and holds several national records in the S6 class.

She recently earned a Master of Science in Strategic Management and Digital Marketing from the University of Malta.

Speaking from IPC Headquarters, Maja said, “I’m incredibly excited to join the IPC’s Brand and Communications team. This opportunity perfectly aligns with my passion for sport and professional goals.”

Reflecting on a previous conversation with IPC’s Chief Brand and Communications Officer Craig Spence, she added, “Fast forward to today, and I’ve just started my dream job. What a full circle moment.”

The IPC is based in Bonn, Germany, and aims to build an inclusive world through Para sport.
