Liverpool’s players finally lifted the Premier League trophy in front of a jubilant Anfield crowd on the final day of the season… a moment over three decades in the making.

Not since 1990 had Reds supporters witnessed their team crowned champions at home, and a 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace did little to dampen the mood.

The significance of the occasion was heightened by memories of the 2019/20 season, when Jürgen Klopp’s title-winning side were denied a proper celebration due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

On Sunday, however, the Kop was packed and the atmosphere electric, as Arne Slot’s men brought the curtain down on a triumphant campaign.

There was more reason for celebration however as Mohamed Salah capped off a remarkable season by equalling the all-time Premier League record for most goal involvements in a single campaign.

His strike against Palace marked his 47th direct contribution – matching the record jointly held by Andrew Cole and Alan Shearer. Impressively, Salah achieved the feat in a 38-match season, while Cole and Shearer did so in 42-game campaigns, prior to the league being reduced to 20 teams in 1995/96.

Salah had already surpassed the 38-match record with his 45th involvement in April. Although he narrowly missed out on the single-season assist record, finishing with 18, his overall tally helped secure both the title and the EA SPORTS Player of the Season award.
