Kayden Lagana’ wins local MBA Masters Tournament

Kayden Lagana' won the local MBA Masters Tournament, the most prestigious local tournament in Maltese bowling, producing a series of excellent performances.

After the initial 2 qualifying rounds, 10 bowlers remained to play the quarter finals. These were Kayden Lagana’, Nicolai Mallia, Nicholas Muscat, Matthew Magro, Mikhail Mallia, Cynthia Frendo Duca, Samuel Caruso, Sue Abela, Miguel Xuereb and Tomas Caruso.

The 5 game quarter finals saw Lagana’ bowl superbly to finish in top spot, followed by the Mallia brothers, Nicholas Muscat, Matthew Magro and Tomas Caruso. Players were then split into 2 groups of 3 bowlers, with all bowling 1 game and low man out. In Group 1, Caruso was the first to lose out, by just 2 pins as Muscat shot 205 to his 203, with Lagana’ firing a 279. Group 2 was agonisingly close, as Nicolai Mallia shot a 193, Mikhail a 192 and Magro a 186. Nicolai then shot 279 to overcome his younger brother’s 202, while Lagana’ continued in fine form with a 256 vs the 172 of Muscat.

In the Final, both bowlers started off with a double; however Lagana’ was clearly in better form on the day and shot a 257 against Mallia’s 221 to clinch a well-deserved Masters title for 2026!

Lagana’ and Mallia will be joined by Frendo Duca and Muscat Carannante as they travel to Croatia in a few days to represent Malta at the Mediterranean Bowling Championships.
