Katryna Esposito Wins Bronze Medal at Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games

Maltese judoka Katryna Esposito has added another major achievement to her impressive career after winning a bronze medal in the women's -48kg category at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.

Esposito successfully defended the bronze medal she first won at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, further strengthening her place in Maltese sporting history.

Competing at the SEC Centre, Esposito began her campaign with a confident victory over Mauritius' Marie Thomas. Showing strong determination from the opening exchange, the Maltese judoka controlled the contest with dominant grips before securing the win with a waza-ari.

Esposito then faced Canada's higher-ranked Heidi Quach in a fiercely contested eight-minute bout. Despite producing a determined performance, Esposito was eventually defeated by ippon, with Quach progressing to the gold medal final.

Refusing to leave Glasgow without a medal, Esposito responded brilliantly in the bronze medal contest against Scotland's home favourite Eva Ewing. She took control from the start, scored early and then produced a decisive armlock submission, forcing Ewing to tap out and securing victory by ippon.

Ewing had reached the bronze medal contest through the repechage after losing her quarter-final to India's Asmita Dey, who went on to claim the gold medal.

Esposito's latest Commonwealth Games bronze represents another proud moment for Maltese sport.
