July 2025 delivered one of the most memorable months in recent Maltese sporting history, with athletes and clubs across multiple disciplines achieving milestones that underscored the island’s growing competitive presence.

On the athletics track, Thea Parnis Coleiro emerged as one of Malta’s brightest young talents. Competing at the European Youth Summer Olympic Festival, she set a new national record in the 200m with an impressive 24.06 seconds in both the U‑18 and U‑20 categories. Her performance not only highlighted her personal development but also reflected Malta’s strengthened investment in youth sport.

Waterpolo also took centre stage, with the Malta men’s national team securing qualification for the 2026 European Championship finals following a decisive 17–13 victory over Portugal. This achievement marked Malta’s sixth consecutive qualification, reinforcing the nation’s status as a consistent force in European waterpolo. Domestically, the Premier Division produced thrilling encounters, including Sliema’s narrow 15–14 win over Neptunes, a match that showcased the high level of local competition.

In football, July signalled the start of European commitments for Maltese clubs. Teams such as Ħamrun Spartans, Floriana, Birkirkara, and others entered the UEFA Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League qualifying rounds. With fixtures kicking off in early July, Maltese clubs prepared intensively for their continental challenges, aiming to build on recent years of improved performances and deeper progression in European competitions.
