Julian Vella Dominates IKC Round 4 with Brilliant Wet‑Weather Victory

Julian Vella delivered a commanding performance in the fourth round of the IKC National Championship, overcoming a weekend of unpredictable weather to secure victory in the Final along with the fastest lap. After qualifying second and repeating the result in the prefinal, Vella saved his best for last, producing a flawless drive when it mattered most.
The day began with a wet practice session in which Vella showed promising pace despite a less‑than‑ideal setup. As the rain eased and the track dried ahead of qualifying, the team switched to a dry configuration, allowing Vella to clock competitive times even while navigating traffic. He secured P2, setting the tone for the day.
The prefinal proved the most challenging moment, with a last‑minute switch from dry to wet conditions in parc fermé. The compromised setup affected Vella’s pace, costing him positions, yet he still battled back to finish second.
With more preparation time before the Final, the team corrected earlier setup issues. The result was emphatic: Vella surged from P2 to dominate the race, opening a 12‑second gap and registering the fastest lap.
Vella credited R33 Racing – CRG Malta, his family, sponsors Swaey Brothers, and Rueben Mifsud for engine and chassis preparation, while expressing gratitude for a safe race weekend.
