Joseph Portelli Meets Ferrara Mayor as SPAL Project Begins

Ħamrun Spartans president Joseph Portelli has met Ferrara Mayor Alan Fabbri as he begins shaping his plans for the Italian club formerly known as SPAL.

The Maltese entrepreneur completed the €2 million acquisition of Ferrara Calcio Ars et Labor on July 9, marking his most ambitious football investment yet. The meeting was described by Ferrara's press office as cordial, with both sides highlighting the importance of institutional cooperation and a long-term project closely connected to the city.

Portelli previously said the Italian club's eventual rise to Serie C could provide Maltese players with opportunities to develop abroad, while also helping Ħamrun Spartans attract higher-level foreign talent for European competition.

The club narrowly missed promotion this season after losing in the play-off semi-finals.
