Maltese international Joseph Mbong has officially returned to his boyhood club Hibernians, in what many supporters are already calling one of the biggest signings of the local transfer window.

The move comes as Hibernians begin a new chapter following the arrival of foreign shareholders, with renewed investment expected to strengthen the club after a disappointing campaign last season. Many fans see Mbong's return as a major statement of intent as the Paolites look to challenge for honours once again.

Mbong is no stranger to the club, having progressed through the Hibernians youth academy before making more than 100 senior appearances in the famous black and white shirt.

Announcing the signing on Instagram, Hibernians described the transfer as a story "always meant to come full circle." The club also highlighted Mbong's family ties, noting that he is the son of Hibernians legend Essien "Papa" Mbong.

The return of one of Malta's top footballers is expected to provide a major boost as Hibernians prepare for the upcoming season.
