Jean Claude Faenza opens up on illness, recovery and renewed ambition

Jean Claude Faenza has shared a powerful and emotional account of the toughest chapter of his athletic career, revealing how illness struck just before the HYROX World Championships and changed everything. After arriving in the best shape of his life, Faenza fell seriously sick and never felt the same again. What followed were months of exhaustion, uncertainty and a sense that something deep inside him had shifted.
An operation brought hope, but the mental battle continued. Doubts crept in “What if I’m not the same anymore?” and even simple training sessions felt heavier than they should. Still, with the support of family and close friends, he pushed forward, masking the pain and starting again.
His first race back left his body in shock, yet he refused to stop. Criticism from others only fuelled him further. Race by race, he improved, eventually hitting new personal bests.
Now, seven months later, Faenza says he is fully recovered and ready to push his limits once more. His journey, marked by resilience and self-belief, has shaped the athlete he is today.
