James Camilleri has completed one of the toughest endurance events in Europe the Bretzel Ultra Triathlon Double Ironman crossing the finish line after 28 hours and 28 minutes of continuous racing. The Maltese ultra‑athlete covered a staggering 7.6km swim, 360km cycle, and 84.4km run, pushing through fatigue and mental battles to secure an impressive 5th place among 18 elite competitors.

Camilleri’s breakthrough moment came around the 55km mark of the marathon, where he fought through exhaustion and kept negotiating with his tired legs for “a little bit more.” Despite the immense physical toll of the swim and bike, he chose to attack the marathon aggressively, a decision that helped him climb into the Top 5 against what he described as “serious beasts.”

He credits his achievement to the team supporting him throughout the race. His coach Fabio Spiteri provided the structure and motivation needed to endure the darkest moments. Philip Cachia (Kapu) worked tirelessly on Camilleri’s body mid‑race, keeping him moving efficiently. His fiancée Therese Genovese spent nearly 30 hours ensuring he stayed fuelled, hydrated, and mentally strong.

Camilleri now shifts his focus to his next challenge the Triple Ironman in Bad Radkersburg, Austria while continuing to raise funds and awareness for Caritas Malta.
