Young Maltese driver Jake Jordan Micallef faced a weekend of highs and setbacks during Round 1 of the ACI Italian Karting Championship in Lonato, Italy.

Competing against some of the world’s top karting talent, Micallef showed strong pace throughout the weekend, consistently running inside the top 10 and proving he can match the front-runners. His performances in the heats were particularly encouraging, gaining positions in both races to secure two P10 finishes after starting P13.

Momentum continued into the prefinal, where he climbed from P7 to P6 and looked set for a strong result. However, a late racing incident in the final half-lap dramatically changed the outcome, dropping him down the order and forcing him to start the final from the back of the grid.

Starting P20 in the final, Micallef faced an uphill battle and ultimately crossed the line in P23, unable to recover from the earlier setback.

Despite the disappointment, the weekend offered valuable lessons. With competitive pace already evident, Micallef remains focused on improving both his driving and kart performance as the season progresses.

As he reflected after the race, the experience captured the essence of motorsport, where fortunes can change in an instant. But with determination and clear potential, Micallef is already looking ahead, ready to push harder in the rounds to come.
