Jacob Micallef Claims First Formula 4 Podium

Maltese Formula 4 driver Jacob Micallef continued his rapid rise in international motorsport by securing his first-ever F4 podium during Round 2 of the Spanish Winter Championship at the Circuito de Jarama. The achievement comes just one week after his Formula 4 debut in Portimão, underlining the 16‑year‑old’s fast adaptation to single‑seater racing. Micallef, who is set to compete in the F4 Spanish Championship with Campos Racing, is widely regarded as one of Malta’s most promising young drivers.
Across the weekend, Micallef showed steady progression. After a challenging qualifying session on Saturday, he navigated a chaotic Race 1 marked by multiple Safety Cars, gaining valuable experience under pressure. His Sprint Race performance later that day demonstrated sharper execution and growing confidence.
Sunday brought further obstacles, with traffic limiting him to P12 in qualifying. Yet the final race showcased his resilience. Despite red flags and interruptions, Micallef delivered decisive overtakes and consistent pace, crossing the line sixth overall and second among rookies. Post‑race penalties elevated him to fifth overall, officially securing his maiden podium.
With support from his coaching team and management, Micallef now turns his focus to the final Winter Series round at MotorLand Aragón as preparations intensify for his full championship campaign.
