With just two months to go, il-Ġirja t’Għawdex returns for its 51st edition on Sunday 26 April 2026, reaffirming its place as Gozo’s largest and longest-standing athletic event.

Held annually, the race attracts both local and international athletes, offering a unique sporting experience against the island’s striking historical and natural backdrop. Participants can choose from a Half Marathon, 10km and 5km races, 10km and 5km walkathons, a 2km family fun run, as well as 2km and 900m races for children. The Half Marathon and 10km routes are AIMS-certified, and the event holds a Gold Label awarded by Athletics Malta.

Runners along the main routes will pass iconic landmarks including the Cittadella, Tas-Salvatur Hill, Xagħra Square, the Qbajjar Salt Pans and the Ta' Pinu Shrine.

First organised in 1977 by the Xagħra Youth Centre, the event remains volunteer-led. Applications are open at www.rungozo.org, with personalised race bibs available for those registering by 15 March 2026.
