History Made In Aarhus: Katrina Micallef Amongst Top 10 Sailors At ILCA 6 Youth World Championships

Katrina Micallef finished among the top 10 sailors at the 2026 ILCA 6 Youth World Championships which concluded in Aarhus, Denmark after a demanding week of racing that brought together 429 young sailors from 45 nations, making it one of the most significant international benchmarks of the U19 ILCA youth season.

Katrina finished 8th overall in the Women's fleet out of 122 participants and securing a place in the World Top 10. She was awarded a special plaque recognising her achievement, presented by Danish sailing legend and three-time Olympic medallist Anne-Marie Rindom.

The result marks another major step forward in Micallef's international development and demonstrates her growing ability to compete consistently among the world's leading youth sailors. Apart from Katrina, Jonas Micallef and Kaine Muscat also represented the Royal Malta Yacht Club.

In the Men's championship, Jonas Micallef finished an impressive 27th overall out of 307 participants — a very strong result in one of the largest and most competitive youth fleets of the season, and another important milestone in his international development.

Kaine Muscat continued to progress well, finishing 19th in the U17 category while competing in the Silver Fleet. This adds another valuable World Championship experience to his growing record, following his strong performance at the European Championship earlier this summer, where he finished 12th in the U17 category.

Coming away from a World Championship of this level with a World Top 10 finish, 27th overall in the Men's fleet and a Top 20 U17 result is a very positive conclusion to the event and another significant step forward for Malta's young ILCA sailors.

The Royal Malta Yacht Club Sailing School expressed its gratitude to the Maltese Olympic Committee, SportMalta, the Malta Sailing Federation, the Royal Malta Yacht Club and Firetech for their continued support of the Club’s athletes and their international development.
