Gzira United Player Approached To Fix FA Trophy Final

A Malta Premier League player has been arrested after offering a sum of money to a Gzira United player with the aim of fixing last Saturday's FA Trophy final between Valletta and Gzira.

A day before the final, the player was approached by another Premier League player who is not part of Valletta FC, to underperform in the FA Trophy final, a match in which not only the trophy, but also a place in Europe was at stake.

Gzira United FC and Valletta FC both informed the Malta FA Integrity Officer and informed him of the situations.

The player was arrested and interrogated, with further investigation set to take place, which will determine whether there will be sufficient evidence to take the player to court for match fixing offences.
