Graham Borg Continues Remarkable Comeback With Sicily Victory And Ironman Personal Best

Maltese triathlete Graham Borg continued his outstanding comeback season with another impressive performance, claiming victory in the Masters 2 category at the FITri Sprint Triathlon in Mazara del Vallo, Sicily, on 21 June.
Borg completed the race in a season-best time of 1:00:19, finishing 14th overall in a competitive field of 154 male athletes. His performance included a 10:52 swim, a superb 29:17 bike leg over 20km—the second-fastest cycling split of the day—and a solid 20:08 run. The result improved his previous sprint triathlon best by almost three minutes.
The Sicily triumph came just one week after Borg achieved another major milestone at the full-distance Ironman event in Tours, France. Competing over the classic Ironman distance of a 3.8km swim, 180km bike ride and 42.2km marathon, he crossed the finish line in 9 hours and 33 minutes, setting a new personal best and improving his previous fastest Ironman time, recorded in Barcelona in 2018, by three minutes.
A highlight of the race was Borg’s exceptional bike split of 4 hours and 38 minutes, the second-fastest in his age category. Despite battling extreme heat during the closing stages of the marathon, he secured seventh place among 257 competitors in his age group and ranked 89th overall among 2,217 male finishers.
These performances underline a remarkable return to top form, with Borg consistently delivering podium finishes and career-best performances in his first season back in competitive triathlon.
