Graham Borg Claims Olympic Distance Overall 3rd Position Podium and M2 Category Win

Graham Borg secured his first overall podium in a FiTri circuit triathlon race since his return to competitions last September, delivering an impressive performance at the IronIsland race held on Sunday 26th April at Marina di Ragusa.
Borg finished 3rd overall in the Olympic Distance race while also claiming 1st place in his age category.
He opened with a strong 1.5km swim, exiting the water in 7th overall, before delivering an outstanding performance on the 45km bike route — notably longer than the standard 40km segment — where he recorded the fastest overall bike split among all competitors.
He entered the run in 2nd position overall, just 1.5 minutes behind the younger race leader. The final 10km run developed into a tight contest for podium positions. At one stage, Borg dropped to 4th overall, but a determined effort in the final 4km saw him finishing the 10km run in 38mins 23sec, to regain a place and secure 3rd overall, marking a significant milestone in his comeback first year.
The top two podium places were taken by athletes in the Senior 1 and Senior 2 categories, meaning Borg also comfortably secured 1st place in the M2 category, earning maximum points toward the 2026 FiTri season standings.
This Olympic distance race served as a strong benchmark ahead of Borg’s next challenge at the Jesolo Venice Half Ironman on Sunday 3rd May 2026.
