Gilbert Agius has been appointed Head Coach of the Malta Under-21 National Team, marking his return to the Malta Football Association following coaching experiences both locally and overseas.

The former Malta international captain, who earned 120 caps during his distinguished playing career, returns to a familiar role, having previously guided the Under-21 national side for two years until 2023.

Following his departure from the Malta FA, Agius continued developing his coaching career with spells in Indonesia before returning to domestic football in the Maltese Premier League.

His appointment takes immediate effect, allowing him to oversee preparations for the national team's upcoming training camp, scheduled for next week.

Agius brings considerable experience and familiarity with Maltese football as he begins another chapter in charge of the country's emerging international talent.

Meanwhile, the Malta FA expressed its appreciation to outgoing Under-21 Head Coach Davide Mazzotta for his contribution during the team's previous campaign.

Mazzotta will remain within the Association's technical structure, continuing as Head Coach of the Malta Under-16 National Team.

He will also assume greater responsibilities in grassroots football, spearheading a new development project which the Malta FA is expected to unveil shortly.

The changes underline the Association's continued focus on strengthening its national youth football structures.
