Giacomo Camilleri earns professional breakthrough in Spain at just 16

Sixteen‑year‑old Giacomo Camilleri has taken a major step in his basketball career after securing a move to BCBadajoz, where he will compete with the club’s U18 squad at the highest junior level in Spain. The Extremadura club confirmed his arrival as part of its international talent‑building project, highlighting Camilleri’s strong pedigree and rapid development.

Camilleri, born on 9 January 2010, arrives from Starlites Basketball Club, where he established himself as one of Malta’s most promising young guards. Standing at 1.83m, he is capable of playing both point guard and shooting guard, praised for his game management, rhythm control and ability to create for teammates. His performances with Malta’s youth national teams have further elevated his profile, particularly his standout summer at the FIBA U16 EuroBasket Division C, where he averaged 4.7 points, 6 rebounds and 4.5 assists, helping Malta secure a silver medal.

He also gained valuable minutes with Malta’s U18 national team, adding another layer of international experience to his development.

Camilleri arrives in Badajoz with a winning background, having collected multiple youth titles with Starlites including an unbeaten U16 league season and the Memorial Cup as well as senior honours such as the Knock Out, League, Shield and John Tabone Shield.

Speaking to the club, Camilleri expressed excitement and gratitude for the opportunity, calling it “a new chapter with new goals and endless motivation.” His move marks a significant milestone for Maltese basketball, showcasing the growing impact of local talent on the European stage.
