Francesca Curmi Wins W35 Darmstadt Tournament, Germany

Francesca Curmi, Malta’s top tennis player, has added another international trophy to her name by winning the W35 Darmstadt tournament in Germany.
The competition is part of the ITF World Tennis Tour, which brings together rising tennis players from around the globe.
Curmi played some excellent tennis throughout the week. She reached the semi-finals without losing a single set, showing her strong form from the very start. In her first match, she easily beat Swiss player Fiona Ganz 6-1, 6-1. She then continued her winning streak by defeating French opponent Sarah Iliev 6-2, 6-3.
Her toughest challenge came in the quarter-finals against American Vivian Wolff. Curmi lost the first set but fought back to win the next two sets 6-3, 6-3.
She then faced the tournament’s top-ranked player, Shohyun Park of South Korea, in the semi-finals. After a close match, Curmi won the final set 6-1 to reach the final.
In the final, Curmi faced German wild card Josy Daems. Curmi stayed focused and won the match 6-2, 6-0. This is her first title of the year and a great step forward in her career, helping her rise from her current world ranking of 369.
