The Futsal Malta Association (FMA) has welcomed the Malta Football Association’s decision to integrate a purpose‑built Futsal Arena within the National Stadium Regeneration Masterplan — a milestone achievement following more than a decade of persistent lobbying for dedicated futsal infrastructure.

Since its formation in 2011, the FMA has worked tirelessly with authorities and the MFA to address the chronic shortage of suitable indoor facilities, as most existing courts were heavily booked and inadequate for the sport’s growth. Discussions on a dedicated arena date back to 2012, with several administrations reviewing detailed proposals, design concepts, and costed plans. Although earlier initiatives stalled, the FMA’s determination ensured the issue remained firmly on the national agenda.

These efforts culminated in both major political parties pledging support for a futsal arena in their 2022 electoral manifestos. Now, through the MFA’s ambitious vision to regenerate the National Stadium, the opportunity to finally deliver this long‑promised venue has taken shape.

The National Stadium Regeneration Committee, led by MFA Vice President Dr Matthew Paris, has formally included the Futsal Arena as a key project component. FMA President Mark Borg, who sits on the committee and design team, is actively contributing to turning this long‑standing vision into a concrete reality.
