Floriana Young Stars finished second in the national hockey league after defeating GREE Żurrieq Wolves Hotsticks in a decisive shoot-out.

Both teams had ended the regular season level on points, making a playoff match necessary to determine the final standings.

The match was played at a high tempo and was full of drama. Joe Ellul Turner put Floriana ahead early on with a penalty corner to make it 1–0. However, the game turned in Żurrieq’s favour by the end of the third quarter, with goals from Jayden Cutajar and Keith Scicluna putting them 2–1 ahead.

In a crucial final quarter moment, Floriana captain Karl Chircop converted a penalty stroke to level the score at 2–2, a result that remained unchanged until the end of regular time.

The shoot-out saw Floriana goalkeeper Marvin Grixti emerge as the decisive figure, producing key saves in a high-pressure finish.

With this result, Floriana Young Stars also secured qualification for the Euro Challenge Hockey 2027.
