Floriana FC Issues Official Statement as MFA Sets Hearing on Marsaxlokk Protest
Local

Floriana Football Club has released an official statement following the protest filed by Marsaxlokk FC regarding the decisive goal scored during the YoHealth Malta Premier League Finalissima on 16 May 2026. The Malta FA has confirmed that the protest has been formally received and will be examined by the MFA Protests Board, the Association’s independent judicial body.

In its statement, Floriana FC acknowledged the protest and emphasised that, due to the ongoing proceedings, it would be “inappropriate and unethical” to comment publicly so as not to prejudice the process. The club confirmed that it has appointed legal counsel to study the case in detail and represent Floriana as an interested party throughout the hearings.

The controversy stems from a late goal that secured Floriana’s 27th league title, a moment now under scrutiny after Marsaxlokk argued the ball had not fully crossed the line. The MFA has stated it will refrain from further comment until the review is complete.

Floriana concluded its statement by affirming it will make no further public remarks until the adjudication process is finalised, as Maltese football awaits a ruling that could have major implications for the championship.
