Floriana and Valletta set for high‑stakes Super Cup derby at the National Stadium

Floriana and Valletta will renew their historic rivalry on Monday evening when they contest the 40th edition of the BOV Super Cup at the National Stadium a fixture that brings together the Premier League champions and the FA Trophy holders in a derby loaded with prestige, history and expectation.

Valletta enter the match aiming for a 14th Super Cup triumph, while Floriana seek their third, with both clubs having previously met twice in the competition, sharing one win each. Floriana coach Daniel Portela described the occasion as “more than a final”, emphasising the tangible rivalry and the electric atmosphere that accompanies this derby. He insisted his side will push to settle the contest within 90 minutes, mindful of a demanding schedule ahead.

Valletta coach Thane Micallef reflected on his team’s recent success including the Jubilee Cup and FA Trophy but stressed that Monday represents a fresh challenge. He believes Valletta have yet to reach their full potential this season, though their latest victory provides confidence heading into the final.

Captains Dunstan Vella and Brandon Paiber both underlined the importance of supporters, describing them as a driving force in derby matches. Floriana arrive with a full squad, while Valletta manage minor knocks as Yannick Yankam continues recovery.
