Five Maltese snooker players are in Gandia, Spain, as they prepare to compete in the 2026 European Snooker Championship, organised by the European Billiards and Snooker Association. The tournament, running from March 8 to 14, features 173 players representing 40 nations, divided into 43 groups for the opening phase.

Malta’s contingent includes reigning national champion Brian Cini, along with Aaron Busuttil, Chris Peplow, Joseph Casha, and Philip Ciantar. The group-stage draw, announced on Saturday, placed each Maltese player in challenging but competitive sections. Cini, competing in Group AO, will face opponents from Spain, Albania and Scotland. Busuttil, Peplow, Casha and Ciantar also face strong international opposition across Groups E, F, G and S respectively.

The first day of action sees four Maltese players in competition, with Cini scheduled to begin later in the week. Casha opens Malta’s campaign at 10:00 against Ireland’s Dan Merrigan, followed by Busuttil and Ciantar at 12:30, while Peplow plays the final Maltese match of the day at 17:30.
